“Samsas” Armchair by Carl Malmsten
“Samsas” translates roughly from the Swedish as agreement or togetherness. We find Carl Malmsten’s 1923 design remains agreeable almost 100 years later. This particular example of the model was produced circa 1960 by O.H. Sjogren.
It has been restored and recovered in a new handwoven Zak Fox cotton textile called “Chimi.” Seen here with the Samsas sofa, upholstered in “Poncho.” Zak’s designs are at once contemporary and timeless, which is why they are so suitable for the furniture we most adore.
